Born and raised in Sacramento, CA, Craig Derby developed a love of glass art after relocating to the Pacific Northwest 12 years ago. A gift of glass blowing lessons from a former girlfriend was all it took for his artistic passion to find an outlet. He commuted from Bellingham to 5th Avenue Glass Studio in Seattle for his initial lessons and then studied under Christopher Morrison from Morrison Glass Art in Bellingham, WA. He currently works with a talented team of glass blowers out of Morrison Glass Art concentrating on open bowl forms. “ I love this open form as it works equally as well as a tabletop or shelf accent as it does hung from the wall.” Derby is kept busy with commission work from Seattle as well as selling locally. His work was recently purchased by the biotechnology company Amgen and presented to the State Governors who attended the 2004 Governor’s Conference in Seattle. As well as his artistic pursuits, Craig Derby is a practicing Anesthesiologist working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, WA. |
